   The Drovers Arms

The Drovers Arms, Howey, is a stylish red brick, Victorian building on an original Drovers route used by the Welsh Drovers to walk their cattle, sheep, pigs and geese to the rich men's markets in England since Norman times .
The picturesque village of Howey is just off the main A483. It is 5 miles North of the market town of Builth Wells, which has the Royal Welsh Show ground close by. The county town of Llandrindod Wells is 1 mile to the North.
Howey village has a small shop and Post Office with an Art Gallery in the converted mill. The name Howey is taken from the brook that runs through the village in welsh it means summer stream (Hafwy). This is a fantastic unspoilt touring area with beautiful and contrasting scenery - from mountains, rolling hills, rivers to great dams and lakes.

The Drovers is a "Superb" Inn (as quoted in the Rough Guide to Wales) located in the Heart of Mid-Wales and so offers an excellent touring base for many attractions such as the Elan Valley Dams, Red Kite feeding station at Rhayader, Brecon Beacons National Park. Hay on Wye (second hand book centre for Europe) is not far away nor is the Judges Lodge in Presteigne. Powys Castle is a must and within the area you can also enjoy: Cycling, Golf, Fishing, Pony Trekking, Craft Centres, Bird Watching (RSPB) or just relaxing. If you have visited the Lake District you will find we have as much to offer - by car, cycle or foot you are most welcome here.

We have been successfully running the Drovers Arms since 1987. We use welsh produce wherever possible and, with few exceptions, we make every dish ourselves. In our non-smoking dining room you can enjoy dishes such as Welsh oak smoked salmon, Brecon Venison, Pembrokeshire Beef Steak, Welsh Lamb and pork, vegetarian options and fresh fish on Weekends. Puddings can vary from light home-made ice creams and cheesecakes to rich sticky toffee & chocolate puddings. We also offer a good cross-section of Welsh and English cheeses. Our wine list comprises wines from both the old and new World producers. We have our own Real Beer and an excellent local cider as well as the usual Euro-fizz products.
